Fishing Derby Saturday

Today was the 6th annual fishing derby at Pacana Park. This was the 1st year we were signed up to attend the event (registration fills up within hours of opening). Kids all get a brand new fishing pole from Fry's Food and Bait (worms) and tackle kit from ChitWoods (a local feed store). There was also a BBQ afterwards sponsered by Fry's Food as well.

The derby started at 2:30 p.m. and went until 4 p.m. and was a catch and release event. The kids were supposed to keep track of how many fish they caught and turn in score cards at the end of the event. Right before the event started Bryce fell on the playground and was injured on his leg and belly. We patched him up and elevated his leg near the lake.

The kids had a great time learning to cast and reel in their lines. Bryce had a hard time learning to leave his line in the water..lol. Kyle caught 1 catfish and Bryce ended the day with 0. But he still had a fun time. We even stayed a bit later tring to catch another fish but no luck...lots of nibbles and a few who got away but only 1 fish was caught by our family.

Mark told the boys we could go out tomorrow morning at 5 am before church...I laughed. I think we will probably go fishing while the boys are off for spring break since a lot of their friends are leaving town for Spring Break. I think they really enjoy the chance at catching a fish and I think as long as I bring gloves I will be able to help them with the fish. I hope!
